How to relate dance to music? – Romain de Mesmay

The relationship between dance and music usually seems obvious, however, it is not. There are many ways to connect to or disconnect from music. In this workshop we will play with the connection between music and dance, trying to find unusual ways of listening and challenging our methods of responding to musical input. How does the music affect a dance event when it stops? Is it possible to listen to the music with all parts of our body? Our listening and imagination can create a wonderful world, which we will explore together. This workshop will be accompanied by Romain and two other musicians.

Romain de Mesmay (FR) received his training in classical music. Since, his interests have shifted towards popular music, improvisation and performance. He performs throughout Europe with tango projects such as l’Armenonville, Orquesta Silbando and TAXXI. The sound of his violin or viola can be heard in Paris impro jams as well as in many contact improvisation festivals.
