Revisiting Laban – Maggie Killingbeck

We can’t get enough of Maggie: this is her third time at Out of the Toolbox! In this workshop, Maggie gives you insight into Laban’s movement toolbox. This pioneer of modern dance developed a movement analysis that has proved invaluable to dancers and teachers regardless of dance genre or style. How do you generate innovative dance material that is both relevant and has the potential for development? By what means do you create structure? Laban’s analysis of movement will be interrogated in terms of its contribution to choreography: generation and refinement.

Maggie Killingbeck (UK) is among the leaders in the field of Laban’s legacy and has been Chair of the Laban Guild for Movement and Dance for almost fifteen years. She has led various dance courses at universities in the UK and is in demand as an examiner in dance courses. She also has contributed to a number of publications concerning dance education. Currently Maggie is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire, and a Governor at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
