Moving in space, playing with weight, musicality, stopping and starting again, salsa, Argentinean tango, non-violent communication, improvisation, dancing as a group, elements from martial arts and even the role that eyes can play… the Slovenian dancer and choreographer Jurij Konjar cannot be pinned down to one style or territory, but takes you on a relaxed journey through a whole kaleidoscope of subjects. There will be plenty to experiment with and incorporate into your own practice afterwards. Ultimately, what it all comes down to is working together and learning from each other.
Jurij Konjar has been a professional dancer and teacher for twenty years. He is based in Ljubljana, but works mostly in Europe and the USA. In the last ten years, he has mainly specialised in improvisation. Alongside (and despite) his professional activity, he still loves movement and dance. As a teacher, he is inspired by his study of Lisa Nelson’s ‘Tuning Scores’, a training practice and composition language that allows you to create performances in the moment.
This one-day workshop is the ‘light’ version (2 sessions, on Friday 24/08). You can also sign up for the ‘intensive‘ version (4 sessions, on Wednesday 22/08 and on Thursday 23/08).
