From idea to choreography – play, create and compose
Looking for ways to compose a dance? In this workshop you will research how you can create dance material and then make all kinds of variations on it using different tools and techniques. You start by developing a movement phrase based on simple, specific assignments (‘gathering the ingredients’). You then edit this material by playing with space, time, context and dynamics (‘trying out different recipes’).
The focus is more on the ‘how’ than on the ‘what’. That means this workshop is open to all dancers, regardless of experience level and style. You playfully explore different strategies to generate, combine, structure and connect movement and intention. The goal is to shape and nourish your choreographic ideas in a creative way.
Jacob Storer graduated from P.A.R.T.S in 2016 and joined the Trisha Brown Dance Company a year later. He was involved in creating choreographies with Rosas for West Side Story on Broadway in 2019, and subsequently also danced with the company. He is currently based in Brussels, where he teaches and works as a performer and dramaturge on various projects. He previously taught at Charleroi Danse (Brussels), NYU Tisch School of the Arts (New York), Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi (Istanbul) and P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels).
