From movement to choreography
This intense dance workshop starts from improvisation as a basis for creating scenes. We let the dance unfold through our sensory bodily experiences, but we also work with our creative thinking. How can movement and ideas develop? How do we influence each other? How do we let our dance grow or shrink in space? Based on these and other questions, we create new dance pieces on the spot every day. We connect with each other, transform together and create spontaneous movements and stories. In this way, we give space to the unexpected and welcome new experiences into our dance.
Paola Madrid offers targeted assignments and tools to improve your strength, coordination and perception. Through exercises (both individually and in groups) and short performances, you deepen your movement language. By playing with contrasts, you discover new layers and possibilities: internal resonances, outer inputs, leads and accents, flow and isolations of actions … You learn to use your body as a powerful means of communication and are challenged to move with an open mind.
Paola Madrid is a Mexican dancer, choreographer and dance teacher who currently lives and works in Belgium. She is the artistic director of her own dance organization SORTA Project, with which she creates dance productions and does improvisation, but also gives workshops and Movement Research lessons. Over the past 11 years, she has been admired on the stages of various cultural houses and festivals.
This one-day workshop takes place every day, but the material and exercises will be different each time.
