Exploring urban and ethnic territories
Say what? Say waacking! Waacking is a form of street dance that originated in the LGBT clubs of Los Angeles during the disco era of the 1970s. It is characterised by rotating arm movements and an emphasis on emotions and expressiveness. This workshop by Junadry Leocaria will be a real party: her focus lies on freedom, musicality, connection and sensuality. She teaches you the basics of waacking and continues with improvisation exercises to explore how you can use this powerful dance style to develop your own personal style. The workshop is open for dancers of all levels, it will inspire you to find new colours to add to your pallet of movement. Truly embracing and celebrating yourself and your own dance vocabulary!
Junadry Leocaria is an eye-catching appearance in the field of the Dutch urban dance theatre. She started her professional dance career at age 18 at ISH Dance Collective, where her love for theatre and the performing arts developed. Junadry is specialized in waacking. The last couple of years she has been working on her own dance practice as a choreographer, theatre maker, coach and teacher. She created works for Festival Classique, ITA, Holland Dance Festival & Korzo. Leocaria is a talented key figure in the Dutch urban theatre scene. With her expressive and powerful way of moving, she knows how to grab your attention.
