How do you approach dance, movement and body techniques? There are so many ways to do so, that finding the right answer for you can feel overwhelming. But don’t panic: Maja Hriešik will show you how dramaturgy can bring enlightenment to your dance practice.
Hriešik sees dramaturgy as a versatile instrument that you can make your own and personalise. Through exercises, you will learn to articulate your essence and specify needs, individually, in a duo or in a group. This two-day intensive workshop offers you all the space you need to (re)discover what is rooted in your body and what are the points of resonance with urgent questions of today.
Maja Hriešik is a dance dramaturge, teacher and researcher. She works as a freelance artist in dance, opera and film, is a curator for festivals and an editor. She published a collection of essays entitled On Corporeal Dramaturgies in Contemporary Dance (2013) and works on the European Project Micro and Macro Dramaturgies in Dance. She also lectures on dance dramaturgy, history and aesthetics at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. As an activist in the Central European dance scene, she advocates for better working conditions and visibility for contemporary dancers, and develops programmes that support emerging artists. For example, she runs a residential dance space with like-minded people on a non-commercial basis.
