Petra Hrašćanec – Practice and meaning – CANCELLED

We all have a certain unique way of looking and understanding. And although we are often not aware of it, our personal dance practice is also strongly determined by our individual framework. But how can we create openness, subtlety, clarity, diversity and connection, each from that own approach?

In this workshop Petra Hrašćanec takes the practices, interests and perspectives of the participants as a starting point. Through various thinking and doing exercises, we will explore how material can exist in different contexts and what different meanings, both personal and universal, it can evoke.

Petra Hrašćanec is a dancer, choreographer and educator. She investigates the body and corporeality through different forms of media (contemporary dance, (music) theatre, opera, multimedia and film). She sees the body as an instrument you can use to create a certain vocabulary or composition. From 2008 to 2020 Hrašćanec was one of the artistic directors of the MONOPLAY festival for contemporary dance in Zadar (Croatia), which presents both solos by renowned European artists and creations by unknown young artists. Since 2013, Hrašćanec has been teaching at the dance department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. Besides her own artistic practice, she often collaborates with choreographers such as Saša Božić, Simone Aughterlony and Francesco Scavetta.
