The body in space – Janyce Michellod

“Those who hear and listen,” is the meaning of the word “lastalaïca” in the language of the elves. It is also the name Janyce Michellod gave to the unique methodology she developed to engage in improvisation and instant composition.

In her workshop, the Swiss dancer delves deeper into movement strategies, composition tools and body awareness. Central to her way of working are mindfulness and musicality: how can you encourage fluidity of thoughts? How can you enrich your ideas through free association? How do you relate to music, sound and silence? How can we as individuals work toward a common goal?

Michellod works multidisciplinary and incorporates concepts from anthropology, philosophy, sociology and science into her approach. Her method increases your virtuosity, expands your physical capabilities and enhances your creativity. She shows you how to turn your habits into your strengths and your limitations into assets.

Janyce Michellod (1983) is a dancer, performer, teacher and herbalist. She trained as a professional ballet dancer and has a bachelor’s degree in performing arts (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and Codarts Rotterdam). In 2006, she participated in the Daghdha Mentoring Program in Dance & Choreography in Ireland, which marked the start of her long-term research into movement, improvisation and instant composition. Janyce worked as a choreography assistant, rehearsal director and teacher for Michael Kliën (Social Choreography) and Colette Sadler. She has performed with Zurich Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Daghdha Dance Company, Lastalaïca Productions and has collaborated with many artists. Since 2018, she has been active as a certified herbalist, specialized in sports and dance. With Ad-Principium, she has developed an online platform that shares knowledge for better living and self-care.
